Reader's Workshop

In Reader's Workshop, we work together as a class to practice the application of reading skills and strategies, along with having class discussions to discuss the details of stories and focus on reading comprehension. We also work on developing reading stamina, where children practice their reading independently for a sustained period of time.

Students have the opportunity to listen to read-alouds, as well as read with partners and individually. There is also guided reading, where children who are a similar reading level are put into reading groups that meet with me almost daily to read a book and have great detailed discussions in a small group setting.

Just as reading and writing go hand in hand, Reader's Workshop is closely tied in with our Writer's Workshop model.
